Student union photo gallery: Alter Ego

  • Makes you think: “Alter Ego” is a photo gallery by Art for Thought that reveals the side of people that many don’t see. It was on display throughout the month of March in the Memorial Union.

  • Close to the edge: “A Step Away” shows a working person, but also deals with homelessness and poverty. It shows how some people live close to being impoverished.

  • Take another look: “Hiding behind the mask” shows how happy many people look on social media, but deals with depression in real life. The photo challenges people to look beyond the mask people wear every day, regardless of the pandemic.

  • Break through: “Shattering glass ceilings” shows a woman who is involved in politics, but who also works as a hairdresser. This photo shows another side to politics; the normal people who are running for office.

  • More to see: “Whittling to success” shows a man who looks very successful, but also has to work a hard job. Many people have to work hard to attain any measure of success.

  • A different perspective: “Tackling Pride” shows a contrast of stereotypes between gay people and football players. This photo offers a challenging new perspective to the sport.

  • Employer and Parent: “Who’s the boss” shows the stereotypes between two working adults who are also parents. This photo challenges passerby to keep in mind that there is more to people than what can be seen by the naked eye.

  • Work it to Earn it: “More than meets the eye” shows a student who graduated, but works as a janitor for a living. This photo demonstrates the struggles of students who work and go to school full time.
