Ichabods compete in first outdoor meet
On March 19, the Washburn Track and Field team competed in their first outdoor meet at the ESU Spring Invitational in Emporia, KS.
It’s almost 2 years ago since the Ichabods competed at an outdoor competition. Last year, their outdoor season got canceled due to COVID.
Because it’s still early in the season, not all the Ichabods have competed yet. Kevin Norville was the only one to get a NCAA provisional mark, in the triple jump he got a mark of 15.06m (49-05.00), which puts him at number one on the national list. Norville was also named the MIAA outdoor field Athlete of the Week after his performance.
More event winners were coming from the relay teams. The women’s 4x100m relay team of Darian Hillebert, Mandana Vouillemin, Shae Ware and Isabella Hohl won their race in a time of 48.27. The women also won the 4x400m relay with Chia Okoro, Hillebert, Nikki Kraaijeveld and Lyndsay Stinson in a time of 3:59.73. The men’s 4x100m relay squad of Josh Wiltz, Josh Hopkins, Eric Patterson, Jr., and Wyatt Heiman won their race and broke the school record with a time of 41.92.
The track and field squad returns to Emporia for the ESU Relays at a two-day meet from March 26-27.
