Professor Emerita of History Dr. Marilyn Geiger Obituary
Professor Emeritus Marilyn Geiger passed away on Dec. 23, 2020 at 89 years old.
Geiger taught at Washburn University for 32 years, from 1962 to 2000. Geiger was not only a history professor, but also an advisor to all history majors that planned to go into education. She also supervised their student-teaching experiences.
Geiger was the history department chair from 1981-1991. Geiger remained active with Washburn University even after her retirement.
Geiger attended high school in Salina, Kansas. She later attended the Colorado Women’s College and received an Associates degree in piano. She then attended Kansas State University and received her B.S. (1952) and M.S. (1958) in History. Finally, she received her Ph.D. in History at the University of Kansas.
Upon retiring she inherited a geranium plant from 300 year old stock, which she took great pride in tending. She also loved to raise long-haired Persian cats, going so far as to bring them to cat shows around the world. She is survived by two brothers Charles (Daytona Beach, Florida), Larry (Salina, Kansas), two nieces and dear friend Karen Moore.
