Ichabod football exhibition games canceled due to COVID-19
Because 15 players on the Washburn football team tested positive for COVID-19, Washburn Athletics announced Thursday, Nov. 5 that the football games against Northwest Missouri State University, which was scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, and Central Missouri University, which was scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14 were canceled.
In a statement sent out by the Athletic Department, athletic director Loren Ferre’ said: “We are disappointed for our fans who were looking forward to seeing us and Northwest Missouri play this weekend. However, with the numbers of players who will now be in quarantine, and for the safety of the Northwest players and coaching staff as well as Central Missouri’s program next week, we will not be able to field a complete team. We will look forward to playing this spring when our football program returns to the field.”
As of early November, the schedule for any fall sports moving to play in the spring has not been made public.
