For some students, finals week will be stressful and chaotic. For others it may be fairly laid back. No matter the case, swing by the Historical Movie Night for a fun, action-packed film. 

The historical honor society, Phi Alpha Theta, will be hosting this year’s final Historical Movie Night with a screening of Mel Brooks’ “Blazing Saddles” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7. The screening will take place in Henderson 112. 

The film takes place during the Western era of the U.S. This film is historically accurate but takes on a more satirical approach. The plot is centered around the town of Rock Ridge harbor that just hires its first black sheriff. This leads to a film full of laughs and action, but also takes on the idea of racial bias, so don’t be surprised to find its fair share of stereotypes and triggers mixed in with the laughs. 

Typically, Phi Alpha Delta picks movies that are more serious and one hundred percent historically accurate. However, according to history Professor Tom Prasch, the honor society likes to make things a bit more fun in light of finals week. 

“We picked it because after doing serious films all semester, we wanted to do a fun one for the stress of finals week. We usually pick a Mel Brooks or Monty Python type movie,” said Prasch.
