Mitzi Hayes is Washburn’s Ichabod of the Week in recognition of her selection as 1958 Homecoming Queen. Chosen in an all-school election preceding the weekend activities the queen’s name was kept a secret until the announcement by Dr. Bryan S. Stoffer at the half time ceremonies.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Hayes, 1235 Oakley, Mitzi is a graduate of Topeka High school. She is a sophomore at Washburn and is a member of Alpha Phi sorority. As a major in physical education she finds her main interest intramural activities.

Mitzi and John Fernstom, chairman of homecoming activities, have been invited to the Neewollah celebration in Independence, Kansas. October 31 and November 1. Mitzi will be a guest in the home of Jody Crane, Kappa Alpha Theta, a senior now in the University. John will be entertained in the home of Larry Rodrick, 1958 Washburn graduate, now serving in the armed forces. They will be guests of honor at the Queens and Mayors Banquet on Friday night to be followed by the Coronation Ball with Charlie Spivak’s orchestra.

In the Saturday parade Mitzi and John will ride in a convertible provided by Washburn alumni on which the name of Washburn University will be prominently displayed and then will be guest at the Queens’ Buffet.
