End this school year with a book. The 2nd Annual Kansas City Literary Festival will run Wednesday, May 14, to Saturday, May 17.

To open the festival, Valerie Hemingway will discuss her memoir “Running with the Bulls” 6:30 p.m. May 14 at the Kansas City Public Library’s Plaza location. Hemingway is the daughter-in-law of famed author of American literature Ernest Hemingway. Currently married to E. Hemingway’s youngest son Gregory, Valerie served as personal assistant as well as heavily-relied-upon confidante to Ernest Hemingway in the final years of his life.

Valerie Hemingway’s novel details her experiences living with Ernest Hemingway and his wife, Mary. Their first meeting was in Spain when Valerie, a new reporter, was given the opportunity to interview the author. Valerie traveled with the Hemingways through Spain and France and resided with them in Cuba.

Following Ernest Hemingway’s suicide, Valerie helped Mary sort her husband’s work in Cuba. Valerie met Gregory at his father’s funeral.

Valerie Hemingway’s presentation is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.
