One night after falling down early to the St. Louis Bandits, the Topeka RoadRunners made sure to not make the same mistake.

Topeka’s Jordan Davis scored a goal late in the first period, followed by three more Topeka (5-1-0) goals in the second period as the RoadRunners defeated the St. Louis Bandits 4-2 on Saturday at the Hardee’s Iceplex.

Three of Topeka’s four goals came on the powerplay, including the goal by Davis. Michael Hill, who is now tied with for the team lead with four goals, scored on the powerplay to make it 2-0. Chris Bond then followed with his first ever goal with the team in 47 games. Bob Marx, in his third year with the team, scored his first goal of the season on the powerplay to take a 4-0 lead to second intermission.

St. Louis scored two goals in the third period but could not pull off the comeback, despite outshooting Topeka 12-3 in the third period. Rasmus Tirronen got his third win of the season for Topeka, stopping 28 of 30 shots. Topeka managed only 17 shots on goal, but St. Louis goaltender Ian O’Brien made only 10 of 14 saves before being pulled.

Topeka has their  home opener this weekend against Texas Tornado. Puck drop on Friday is 7:05 p.m. Texas (2-2-2) finishes up their weekend today with a game versus the Fairbanks Icedogs.
