McGown wins WSGA election

Taylor McGown and Michael Kitowski find out they will be the 2011-12 Washburn Student Government Association president and vice president, respectively, at a brief announcement ceremony Friday, March 11. McGown and Kitowski had 448 votes, compared to Rizki Aljupri and Nicholas Campbell’s 281.

The Washburn Student Government Association presidential and senatorial election results were made official Friday, March 11, during a short ceremony held in the basement of the Memorial Union.

Current WSGA president Caley Onek and WSGA vice president Lucas Mullin announced first announced the senatorial vote counts, which included six write-in candidates earning senatorial positions. Onek then announced that Taylor McGown and her vice presidential running mate Michael Kitowski received a majority of the votes with 448 to Rizki Aljupri and Nicholas Campbell’s 281.

Brooke Rollison received the most senatorial votes with 409, followed by Amber Kissell with 393, Jarrod Cullan and Shea Kirsop with 377 apiece and Dlany Conny with 370. All 19 of the senatorial candidates received 230 or more votes and will serve next year.

Write-in candidates had to receive 10 or more votes to be eligible for a senatorial position. Jon Trotter received 39 votes, followed by Myles Howell with 38, Jessie McGown and Ivan Moya with 35 apiece, Chrib Huber with 11 and Evan Thomas with the bare minimum of 10 votes.
