Washburn football player arrested in connection with robbery

Vershon Moore, standout running back for the Washburn Ichabods was arrested Tuesday and booked into Shawnee County Jail according to reports by the Topeka-Capital Journal. Washburn officials are not commenting on the incident at this time.

According to Cjonline, A white SUV pulled up next to the Envista Credit Union located at 2015 S.W. 10th at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Two employees were outside refilling the automatic teller machine outside the location. Someone inside the vehicle pointed a gun at the employees demanding the money in their possession. The employees complied and the SUV sped away from the scene with the cash. As the vehicle left, the two employees were able to take down the license plate information and report it to police.

Officers were able to track down the registered owner of the vehicle, who told the police that she had let someone use her car. Police tracked down a suspect based on the information given to them and brought Moore in for interview at that point. Moore was later booked into jail in connection with the robbery.

Moore, was first team All-MIAA in 2010 as a sophomore when he led the conference in rushing with 1,007 yards. As a freshman in 2009, Moore ranked No. 3 in the MIAA in rushing with 961 yards and was honorable mention all-conference.
