‘Dredd 3D’ Movie Review

“Dredd 3D” is a 2012 sci-fi action film directed by Pete Travis.  I wasn’t sure what to expect when I went in to see this film but I was totally blown away by the non-stop action, amazing special effects and this film probably has the best 3D I have ever seen.

The film is set in a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner.  What is great about the film is there is no origin to the character of Dredd and the film goes right into the story.  There is a quick narration by Dredd at the beginning that lets the audience know a bit about the world we are seeing now.  Dredd, played by Karl Urband is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson, played by Olivia Thirlby, who is a rookie with powerfulpsychic abilities due to genetic mutation.  Through Dredd’s eyes there is no time for mistakes, one mistake is an automatic fail.
Dredd is challenged with ridding the city of a dangerous drug known as “Slo-Mo” that when taken makes the person see everything at a slow rate of speed.  Imagine being pushed off a 200 story building and falling to your death in slow motion.  This film lets you experience that and boy does it send a chill down your spine.
The film has non-stop action, some might find it too much but it is done well and it makes the film very entertaining.  Though if you are not into a whole lot of violence and action then well this film is certainty not for you.  I know many people are upset that this is a remake from the 1995 film “Judge Dredd” in which I have not seen but I can honestly say that this film is worth seeing.
