The 80th anniversary of the Fiesta Mexicana is almost here

Brian Cervantez

Hey Topeka, there is a fun and exciting event that happens every time around this time of year. It is the Fiesta Mexicana and this year will be a special one because it is the 80th anniversary of the Fiesta. This is a very big deal because it has been a time where friends and family can go to listen to live authentic music.

There is also authentic Mexican food. That is one of the main reason I go there for besides the music. There are games and rides for people of all ages to have fun. There are plenty of stands to find something unique to mark the occasion. One of the best things to look at is the artwork in the basement of the church gym to where anyone can check out some amazing at work of talented kids. The first night is a great night to go because on the fiesta stage there is a jalapeno eating contest that is fun to watch.

The fiesta is a five night event that starts this Tuesday July 9th and goes till Saturday July 13th. The first three nights the festivities start at 6 p.m. and is done by 11 p.m. and the last two nights it will start at 6pm and goes till midnight. This is a fun time that everyone gets behind, but don’t take my word for it and check it out this week.
