Topeka, Kan. – A recent Washburn Tech graduate has earned the distinction of second best cabinetmaker in America. Brett Sidesinger, of Topeka, placed second in the WorldSkills Cabinetmaking Qualifying Trial last week in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The winner of the competition will compete in the 2015 WorldSkills competition in Brazil. As runner-up, Sidesinger will take his place if he is unable to attend. Sidesinger graduated in May from Washburn Tech’s cabinet and millwork program.
At the qualifying trial, Sidesinger and his fellow competitors worked in a fully-functioning 1,600 square foot cabinet shop for 27 hours. They built an advanced cabinet that included a door, drawer box, handcut dovetail joinery, veneer, edgebanding, built-in drawer slides and hardware installation.
