Washburn Tech’s Toys for Tots raises more money

After last year’s success, the Washburn Toys for Tots committee raised this year’s goal of created toys and raising money to 550 toys and $1,100 by this Dec. 13. After calculating the total, the committee created 873 toys and raised $1,232.26 to benefit local children this holiday.

The elves got to work at Washburn Tech Dec. 7 and crafted 500 wooden drums and step stools. During November and December there were 373 new, unwrapped toys for girls and boys donated in collection boxes and at special events on the Washburn campus.

Monetary support for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation also was overwhelming this year. Local children will benefit this holiday season from more than $700 raised at the holiday party, football and basketball games and Washburn Alumni Association After Hours. Staying true to their missions, the Washburn Student Social Work Association (WSSWA) and Washburn Graduate Student Social Work Association (WGSSWA) organized a holiday bazar for the second year and donated all $500 raised to Washburn’s campaign.
