At 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 2nd, Washburn University will test its emergency notification system, iAlert.The system test will send you an email message. You also may receive a text or phone message if you have registered your phone in the iAlert portal.
Washburn is committed to ensuring the campus community is informed in the event of an emergency on campus. Washburn’s iAlert system notifies students and employees by email, text and/or voice message when an emergency exists on or near campus. When an iAlert message is sent everyone with a Washburn email address will automatically receive a message in their campus email.
You also can choose to be notified via phone or text messaging using the registration portal which provides the ability to easily add and remove phone and text notification options. If you had already signed up for iAlert or provided your cellular phone number to Washburn you will receive these messages on your phone.
To review and change your current iAlert delivery settings please go to the following site https://www2-prod.washburn.edu/ialerts . Login into this site using your MyWashburn user name and password. A link to this page can also be found in MyWashburn. (Please note changes can take u p to 24 hours to process.)
iAlert will be used to notify you of:
- situations threatening the safety and security of campus
- closings due to emergency situations threatening the safety and security of campus
- closings due to severe weather (only text and email messages will be sent for severe weather closings, if you have registered only a landline phone number you will not receive these alerts on your telephone)
iAlert will NOT be used for:
- general announcements or any other purposes

iAlert is a mass message emergency notification system which significantly enhances our ability to maintain a safe academic environment for staff, faculty and students.
Keeping your iAlert emergency contact information updated is recommended for your own safety and well-being. All iAlert participants will be informed as quickly as possible in the event of a campus emergency or special situation in order to take appropriate and timely measures in response to the event.
Should an iAlert be issued, you will receive a message from 785-670-4999.
