On Monday, Nov. 18 at 5 p.m., the Biology Club had a Curriculum Vitae Night where Benjamin Reed, faculty advisor of the Biology Club, explained what a CV is and what it is used for. He also shared some tips and advice on how to start one. The event was held in Stoffer Science Hall in Room 007.
August Wilson, president of the Biology Club, shared the importance of having a CV
“A CV is kind of like a long-form resume … It is important for people who are going further in academics like graduate school, or people who are wanting to work in research,” Wilson said
The Biology Club also allows students to be involved in an on-campus organization with other students who share similar interests.
“I come to the Biology Club because I’m a biology major, and it’s interesting to meet people who are involved with my major but also to learn about things that are biology-related, but mainly for the community aspect of it,” said Nicholas Johnston, junior biology major and co-treasurer of the Biology Club.
The CV night can be taken as an example that the club has been able to attract students with different majors. The club conducts essential, interesting activities and presentations applicable to all fields.
“With Biology Club, we wanted to be about getting people connected to resources for academics and having events that just foster community between biology majors and also other majors. We have chemistry majors and even this mass media major last year who was one of the officers,” Wilson said.
The Biology Club organizes meetings every week at the same time and place but there is always something new to learn.
