The Washburn Student Government Association had its weekly meeting Nov. 13 in the Kansas Room of Memorial Union. The meeting went through the rough draft of the WSGA logo change and information regarding International Educational Week.
Kira Roth, special events director, laid out her plan on what she called the “Big Event.” It is a big volunteering event where students go out into the community and volunteer at different sites. Roth sent an email to 16 different sites compiled from the last three years to see if any had an interest in accepting student help.
“So far, I’ve heard back from five or six of these locations. One of them has since moved to Lawrence,” Roth said. “But these other five are very interested in having [students] there.”
George Burdick, WSGA president, reminded the senate about the Chartwell project that they have been working on. He also mentioned discussing different bills next week from the ad-hoc committee.
“I am going to the meeting with them over the next two days about, ‘This is our final proposal? What does the executive [team] want? What does the committee want?’” Burdick said.
Kirstyn Brown, campus and community affairs chairperson, quickly went through the events that are taking place during Success Week. This included Pizza Night in the Plass building Monday from 7-9 p.m., cookie and sweater decorating in the Union Wednesday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and cats in the Union Thursday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Deondre Morris, DEI chairperson, quickly touched on the Native American Storytelling event which is going to happen Nov. 26 in the Memorial Union.
Speaking on International Education Week, a representative from the International Club came forward under Bill #113 with the Culture of Celebration event Nov. 22.
“Students from different countries will be presenting their cultures [and] countries … with their cultural dresses and sample food to taste,” said Marika Prasai, treasurer of the International Club.
