December 6, 2017
The men’s basketball team were looking to improve to a 5-3 record with a win Nov. 30 against the Manhattan Christian College Thunders.
The Ichabods began the game playing hard both on defense and offense, and went on a 26-5 run in the first half.
The Ichabods’ defense was on fire, holding the Thunders to only 27 points in the first half to the Ichabods’ 66 points.
Javion Blake played one of his best games of the season so far, as he scored a total of 17 points, three defensive rebounds, four assists and one steal by the end of the game’s first half.
Brady Skeens was another highlight of the game. He scored a total of 12 points, two total rebounds, one offensive, one defensive, three assists, two blocks and one steal in the game’s first half.
By halftime, the score was 66-27 and the Ichabods showed no signs of slowing down.
As the second half tipped off, the Ichabods shot the ball well from behind the arc, in the paint and with the basic 12-footer jumpshots.
In the first half, they had shot 26 out of 36 with field goals (72.2 percent). They also shot 8 out of 15 three pointers (53.3 percent), while in the second half they shot 25 of 37 in scoring.
Brady Skeens, senior forward, had a total of 14 points, nine total rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals. He said the team working well together as a unit was what made the difference in this game.
“As a team we played great on offense and defense, got the points we wanted and rebounded the ball,” Skeens said.
The final score was 128-51 as the Washburn Ichabods improved to 5-3. The Ichabods will next host a home game next Dec. 6 against Fort Hays State University.
