WSGA announces change to homecoming award and student pay

The Hanes and Leffingwell administration announced updates regarding the homecoming award and student pay during the WSGA all-senate meeting April 5.

Shayden Hanes, WSGA president, and Quinn Leffingwell, WSGA vice president, explained the change to the homecoming award. The award, known previously as Top Bod, has now been renamed to Ichabod of Honor. The purpose of the name change was to make the award more gender inclusive. Another reason for the change was to increase credibility and avoid confusion when winners list the award on their resumes.

Hanes and Leffingwell also announced the long-awaited update on the student worker minimum wage increase. The wage increase is pending approval from the Washburn University Board of Regents. If approved, the change will be effective July 1, 2023.
During the all-senate meeting, the senate recognized a resolution in support of Topeka Metro’s Low or No Emissions Vehicle Program grant. The grant will supply more accessible and cost-efficient public transportation in the form of electrified vehicles.

The meeting concluded with a vote for a silent roll call, which failed. Final attendance was taken in the usual form of a question, this week’s being “If you could hang out with any cartoon character, who would you choose?”
