WSGA reviews the Washburn 2020 climate survey and find interesting results
Results from the 2020 climate survey were presented at the Feb. 2 WSGA all-senate meeting.
Members of WSGA listened to Kelly Erby, assistant dean of the college of arts & sciences, and Jennifer Ball, associate vice president for academic affairs, present their report for the Washburn 2020 climate survey. The survey results were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as various outside influences. The most evident finding in the results was that minority demographic groups were less likely to agree with positive statements about the university compared to majority groups. Erby and Ball urged students to participate in the upcoming 2023 climate survey to provide more recent data.
The meeting wrapped up with funding requests for the Washburn Piano and Organ Society and The National Association for Music Educators, which were approved. Mae Atakpa, WSGA vice-chairperson, discussed various events that will be held by Black Student Union for Black History Month. Some events include a “Black Panther 2” movie watch party and a poetry slam, with the month concluding with the Black Excellence Ball.
