Obituary: Sue Salem, Retired Washburn lecturer
Roberta Sue Salem died July 5, 2021, at the age of 72.
Dr. Salem began her career at Washburn University in 1999 after teaching for 17 years at local high schools and a community college.
She taught the first forensic science course at Washburn, Introduction to Forensic Chemistry.
Through her lectures, laboratories and seminar series on best practices in forensic science, Dr. Salem influenced future forensics opportunities across the Washburn campus including partnerships such as the KBI laboratory.
She served for more than 15 years at Washburn and retired following the conclusion of the 2013-14 academic year when she was named Lecturer Emeritus of Chemistry upon her retirement. Her commitment to her students resulted in an endowed scholarship under her name.
