Engineering Expo to showcase three exclusive exhibits

The Kansas Children’s Discovery Center will host its annual engineering expo from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 2, sponsored by Bartlett & West and Westar Energy. Regular admission rates will apply to visitors.

The top three teams from each competition will be awarded gift certificates to the Discovery Center shop, and the winners will be announced at 3:30 p.m.

The Engineering Expo provides three exclusive exhibits specific to the event itself. These include the Egg-Citing Egg Drop, Skyscraper Tower Challenge and Balloon Structure Building,

For the Egg-Citing Egg Drop, children will create a protective structure to ensure that your egg won’t crack from an estimated 20-foot drop. The egg drop will take place from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. with weather permitting. Printable rules and guidelines can be found at https://kansasdiscovery.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Engineering-Expo-Egg-Drop-Guidelines.pdf

For the Skyscraper Tower Challenge, the record to beat is 11.25 feet. Can you manage to build a taller skyscraper using wooden blocks? Ladders will be provided to those who need them when building. Details can be found at https://kansasdiscovery.org/engineeringexpo/

The Balloon Structure Building will require teamwork and tape while racing against time to build the tallest freestanding balloon structure possible. You won’t need to lose your breath for this one as a balloon pump will be provided.
