A law professor of Washburn University, Marvin E. Larson, was appointed Director of the State Board of Social Welfare. He replaces Frank Long, who died recently.

Larson’s appointment was announced by William Moneypeny, board chairman.

He will take office June 1, but will work in the office on a part time basis until then.

Larson was appointed to the Washburn faculty in 1948. Before coming to Topeka, Larson was Republic County Attorney. He was elected to the office of attorney in 1940. In 1945 he entered private practice in Topeka with John Dean

Larson is board member and past president of Kansas Mental Health Association. He is also a lecturer at the Menninger Foundation on the subject, “Law for Marriage Counselors” each January and February.

The general administration of the Social Welfare Board is to give aid to the aged, dependents, children, and the physically handicapped.

Larson is married and has three children. Born at Scandia, he was graduated from Kacley High school and received both a BS and an LLB degree from Washburn.
