Sometimes, all I want for Christmas is Hugh Grant and Colin Firth, not a fat old man dressed up as Santa Baby. If you are one of those people who actually like Christmas, but cannot stand the movies that surround the season, I suggest you check out “Love Actually.” This dramedy is based on a handful of different sub-plots revolving around love. Who doesn’t fancy a good love story around the holidays? The main plot revolves around David (Hugh Grant), the newly appointed Prime Minister who can’t seem to get his mind off of Natalie, one of his office assistants. David’s sister, Karen (Emma Thompson) is married to Harry (Alan Rickman) who seems to have a thing for his secretary. (Colin Firth) has just discovered his girlfriend is having an affair with his brother and moves to France during the holidays. Jamie meets the lovely Aurelia, his Portuguese housekeeper, and it is love at first sight. Peter and Juliet (Keira Knightly) just wed, much to Peter’s best friend Mark’s dismay. John and Judy meet while standing in as body doubles for a pornographic film. To top it all off, the hilarious has-been rocker Billy Mack (Bill Nighy) is making a come-back with the holiday hit “Christmas is All Around.” This is the perfect alterna-Christmas movie that will make you laugh, cry, and remember why you love the holidays. Hugh Grant’s character David says it best when he says, “Love actually is, all around.”
