A group of skilled trombonists are coming to Washburn for a unique concert.

The LATEX Trombone quartet will perform their musical magic 7:30 p.m., Feb. 15 in White Concert Hall. Admission will be free of charge and the event will be open to the public.

Members of the group include alto and tenor trombonists William B. Mathis, a native of Wichita, Kan., and Michael M. Davidson, assistant professor of trombone at the University of Kansas. Davidson is also a member of the Fountain City Brass band of Kansas City and the Kansas Brass Quintet.

The other half of the talented quartet is soprano and tenor trombonist William G. Rose, associate professor of music at McNeese State, and bass trombonist J. Mark Thompson, professor of music at Northwestern State University of Louisiana.

The group, originally stocked with musicians from Louisiana and Texas, derived their unique name from the abbreviations of the two states. Current members of the foursome live and teach in parts of Kansas, Ohio and Louisiana, and their first CD was released in 2002.
