On April 21, 2010 Washburn University held a Town Hall Meeting at Henderson Learning Resource Center to discuss the budget for the current and next fiscal year.

The main focus was to engage the entire university campus into the budget process.  So they have an understanding how the budget works, what the issues are, what the components of the budget are, so that they can anticipate what will happen for the rest of this year and next year as well.  It was also a place for people to discuss their ideas what they think is possible to do and how they may have an idea that would be something useful for the university to keep the budget in balance.

Since the recession community colleges have had a high increase in enrollment with people wanting to go back to school to better their skills for the work market.  There were ideas and questions asked on how Washburn University can try and bring those people to Washburn with an easier way of transferring classes from those community colleges.  Also there were ideas to try and recruit people from out of state and to increase the enrollment of non-traditional students.  

With the state of Kansas under budget stress and the university facing future budget stress, there is no telling what budget problems Washburn may face into the next fiscal year.
