The Kansas Leadership Center is hosting a community conversation about gun use and public safety from 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 in the Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center.

The event will provide the community with a platform to learn the varying perspectives on gun use by facilitating civil discourse about the often controversial topic.

The event is a part of the Kansas Leadership Centers Journal Talk initiative that is traveling the state to help communities experience challenging discussions to make community progress.

“We will learn about 10 different perspectives of gun usage, presented by Washburn students and community actors followed by facilitated small and large group discussion by Lynette Lacy with the Kansas Leadership Center,” said Michelle Stubblefield, senior vice president of strategy. “We will also learn about a leadership competency framed around civil discourse.”

Stubblefield is excited about what this event will provide Washburn University.

“We want civil discourse to become the norm in addressing and talking through community issues, and when the community can come together to talk about tough issues that is a success,” said Stubblefield.
