Senior artist showcases her pieces to public

As long as she can remember, senior Kathleen Jolly has always been interested in the arts.  Since 2006, she has been pursuing that interest at Washburn University.  Although her interest may never end, her time at Washburn will end shortly.

“The Passage Through Creativity” is currently displayed on both levels of the art building and will remain on display through Friday. The exhibit showcases some of Jolly’s best works, featuring several landscape paintings and figure drawings.

“With the landscapes, I try to go off of my memories of what I have with my children,” said Jolly, a fine arts major.

Although Jolly has emphasis on painting and drawing, she considers herself a well-rounded in regards to the different mediums.

Jolly’s gallery reception was held Friday, April 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. The reception is open to invites other guests interested in learning more about the exhibit. Jolly’s gallery talk will be held today at noon. Traditionally, the gallery talk is open for faculty and other art majors.

While having her own exhibit is something new to Jolly, she is not new to having her work displayed. Previously, Jolly has had two works submitted in the annual student exhibits at the Mulvane Art Museum and also twice at the annual Fiesta Mexicana.

After graduation, Jolly considers relocating to advance her career and further pursue art through graphic design.

“I do want to get my masters degree [now,] but with two kids it’s kind of hard,” said Jolly. “In the future, I see myself getting my masters.”
