Washburn’s email system causes email delays
December 10, 2013
Washburn’s email from yesterday afternoon may have been delayed several hours due to a compromised account that dropped half a million spam messages into the mail queues. While very few of those messages actually got out, it took some time to clean them up and it caused substantial mail processing delays. This affected both unmigrated accounts and those already migrated to Office 365 because of the connections necessary between those systems during this transition.
Until the email system is completely cut over to Office 365 there could be similar issues if more email accounts are compromised. Once the migration is completed it will have more tools and capacity to address such issues. The email system will cut over to Office 365 is schedule to occur before the start of spring semester.
