Washburn’s Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity will be hosting their annual philanthropy week from March 2 – 6.

Tables will be set up in the student union to sell T-shirts and sunglasses. All proceeds will go to Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Topeka, an organization that allows children in need to take a big brother or sister as a mentor and role model. SigEp participants are encouraged to sign up for the organization’s program and student’s will be able to sign up for the program as well.

“We chose [the organization] Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Topeka [and] this is our second year paired up with them,” said Skyler Urban, SigEp vice president of communications. “We just feel it’s important to get their message out there and get involved with the organization itself.”

SigEp will be tabling in the union all next week from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. They are also hosting their annual spaghetti feed on Tuesday March 3, from 5 – 9 p.m. at the SigEp house on MacVicar Avenue. A donation is suggested for all those who attend the spaghetti feed.

New to the festivities is a casino game night, which will be held Thursday, March 5, from 6 to 9 p.m., in the SigEp house. Students will be able to win different prizes, such as gift cards, while participating in casino games.

‘I think [philanthropy week] is great,” Urban said. “Lots of people look at fraternities and don’t necessarily associate them with raising money for organizations and I think it’s important that we do raise money for non-profit organizations.”
