Washburn’s sports information office, headed by director Gene Cassell, led the NCAA Division II for the second year in a row in national publication awards and placed second among all schools.

The 2014 football game program won the Best in the Nation award. The other publications that received awards were the men’s basketball program, the media guides for football, soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball, women’s basketball and the Best Cover award for the volleyball guide.

The guides were designed by Cassell and former assistant director Jeremy Wangler.

Washburn’s sports information office has won 105 publication awards since Cassell took over in 1998.
