Construction crews strike a gas line at the KBI Building
August 10, 2015
Today at 11:37 a.m., a WU Announcement was sent out to Washburn emails with news that construction crews working on the KBI Building reportedly pierced a gas line.
No author for the announcement was given, but the announcement said the situation is under control and there is no need for an evacuation. The announcement also gave notice that due to the pierced gas line, Durow Road between Mulvane Street and Washburn Avenue would be closed until further notice.
Patrick Early, University Relations, said no one was hurt in the incident to his understanding.
“[The construction crew] called the gas company [who] responded right away, and they have it sealed off,” said Early.
Early also stated that he was not informed of any damage to the construction site surrounding the pierced gas line.
At 5:00 p.m., Patrick Early submitted a campus announcement via MyWashburn stated the gas line at the KBI construction site has been repaired and Durow Road has been reopened.
No further details were given.
