Registration opens for the annual Irish Fest 5K
February 22, 2016
The fifth annual Mater Dei Irish Fest 5K Fun Run/Walk is scheduled for March 12. The day’s events will begin at 7:30 a.m. with a Chris Cakes breakfast and then the run/walk immediately following at 9 a.m.
The route is designed to start at the Assumption Catholic Church on SW 8th and Jackson, circle the Capitol and then conclude on Kansas Avenue. All event participants are encouraged to sport some green attire to the event.
“Downtown Topeka has lots of potential for vibrancy so this event will help put a bigger focus on the downtown refurbishments,” said Erinn Renyer, race director.
Upon completion all runners and walkers will receive a race t-shirt and commemorative cup filled with a free beverage. The beverage may be filled with beer for anyone over the age of 21 years who has shown identification.
“The goal of this run is to create community outreach and fellowship to promote health and a fun activity early in the spring,” Renyer said.
Washburn faculty and staff have the opportunity for a $5 discount if registered before Feb. 29. The discount code is “teach16.”
Registration can be completed by visiting the following link: www.irishfestfunrun.com and then clicking the registration tab. T-shirts will only be guaranteed for those who sign up on or before Feb. 29.
This event is not sponsored by the Employee Wellness Program, but has several ties to Washburn faculty and staff. For more event information, call Erinn Renyer at (785) 383-8854.
