On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, Called to Greatness is inviting students to hear personal testimonies of real transformation through Jesus at its Get Real event happening in the Kansas room in the Memorial Union from 7-9 p.m.
Zoie Beckman, sophomore kinesiology major, has been a member of CTG since the fall of 2023 and she currently serves as a vocalist on the worship team. She is looking forward to welcoming all students.
“We just feel like the Lord is wanting to expand His territory on Washburn’s campus and just reach students and provide hope and joy into their lives,” Beckman said. “With this Get Real event, we’re hoping that we’re gonna allow students to hear real-life stories from students about how God has moved in their life and changed them for the better over the last year or just throughout their life.”
Brett Basye, CTG campus minister, is looking forward to the impact the event will have on students’ lives.
“The thing I’m hoping for is for it to radically change people’s hearts towards Jesus and accept Him as Messiah,” Basye said.
Basye also encourages students to simply “come and see” and let the testimonies speak for themselves.
“I think a lot of students have an opinion on Jesus or church or they might have had church hurt in the past, but hearing real testimonies of how Jesus changed people’s lives, I think it would be a great opportunity for them to see change for their life as well,” Basye said.
Dillon Walls serves as a campus minister for CTG and is the organizer of the event. He began organizing it after Klara Robertson, a Washburn student and CTG member, had a vision of creating a space where people could worship God, hear personal testimonies and preach the gospel.
“The event will be mainly an opportunity for some different students involved in Called to Greatness to simply share their story of how God has changed their life over recent years,” Walls said. “And giving them a chance to share that with other students who are hopefully curious to learn about God and learn about what He could do in their life if they choose to follow Him.”
Beyond listening to testimonies, the worship team plans on performing several songs to lead people in praise and worship and allowing attendees to come up to ask for prayers.
Although the event is promoted by CTG, ultimately the group’s main goal is not to recruit new members through this event. They have their eyes on a much bigger goal.
“We’re not trying to get people into Called to Greatness, that’s not the biggest thing we’re getting after,” Beckman said, “It’s spreading the word of Jesus to people, spreading hope, spreading joy.”
