Due to budget constraints, the Washburn Student Government Association will no longer be accepting grant requests for events occurring before July 1, 2025. This hold applies to both campus development grants and student development grants.
This suspension only applies to student grants, not student organization requests. Student organizations requesting funding are wholly unaffected by these changes and may continue to request funding.
Student grants that have already been approved by the Student Senate are unaffected. Further, student grants may still be requested for any date after July 1, 2025, as the Fiscal Year will elapse and WSGA will be operating under its next budget.
WSGA has approved all monies allocated by the Senate for campus development grants and student development grants, a total of $45,000 for the fiscal year. This amount was originally $25,000 but was increased to a total of $45,000 by the passage of SB 2024-25 #129, The Emergency Funding Authorization Act through Senate Jan. 29, 2025.
“Grants serve an important role on campus for students who are both interested in academic opportunities and lack the resources to pursue them,” said George Burdick, WSGA president. “However, continuing to put more dollars towards our grants program would be irresponsible considering the financial position of WSGA and the relative impact the program has. It is my opinion that senate must work with the administration to take action on this program to ensure sustainability and construct new models for how we handle grant requests.”
Students with further questions should reach out to WSGA Budget Director Nick Lloyd at wsga.budget@washburn.edu
Student organizations who are interested in requesting WSGA funds may do so here.
