On Thursday, Sept. 26, the Leadership Challenge event was held in Plass 119 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. This event was for students who wanted to learn about the Leadership Challenge event history. There were eight students present at this event.
Tiana Smith, junior mass media major, started the event with an introduction to the Leadership Challenge panel as a representative for the Aleshire Center for Leadership and Community Engagement.
“It is our 15th anniversary this year. So, we kind of wanted to walk students back through memory lane and show them how the event started and how it’s grown,” Smith said.
The main goal of the Leadership Challenge event was to provide high school students and undergraduate students with the tools to grow in their leadership abilities.
“This panel was to help students know about the history of LC…make them feel more prepared to volunteer in the spring and to know just the event history,” said Brooker Nells, Leadership Challenge fellow for 2019.
Mikaella White, Leadership Challenge event fellow for 2023, had planned this event to educate students in the Aleshire Center about the event.
“I planned this event to educate and prepare students for volunteering or even if they have a leadership role in the event, they can be more prepared for what the event is, and to just share our experience as fellows,” White said.
Jayden Coover, sophomore radiology major, shared her thoughts on why she had joined Leadership Challenge.
“I had never seen so many people in the same room that like to share the same ideas and morals and want to come together even with their adverse ideas. So, I think that was a really cool experience that everybody should experience,” Coover said.
The event ended with Smith talking about the histories of those on the Leadership Challenge panel.
