The Psychology Club at Washburn University held its first meeting of the year to discuss the agenda for the 2024-2025 school year Sept. 6.
“I’m looking forward to getting to know new members and have people come do all the events like the blood drive,” said Carter Johnston, sophomore psychology major and president of the Psychology Club.
Four officers were present at the meeting as well as Tucker Jones, assistant professor of psychology and club faculty advisor.
During the meeting, Johnston introduced her fellow officers and discussed the club’s agenda for this school year. She talked about fundraising ideas including a bake sale, blood drive and selling T-shirts.
Emma Stallbaumer, freshman nursing major, was present at the meeting. She is not majoring or minoring in psychology like most members are, but she still expressed interest in the club.
“I joined the Psychology [Club] because I thought I’d get a little bit more knowledge about it and it would help me in my future career,” Stallbaumer said.
The Psychology Club is open to all students. To be a member, there is no major requirement. Johnston makes sure to remind people of this in hopes that more students will join the club.
“The most important thing we do is bring people together and allow a welcoming atmosphere for all majors,” Johnston said.
There are several opportunities and experiences for club members. At the meeting, they discussed the possibility of having experts and graduate students come and speak to club members.
Reagan Bosch, freshman psychology and criminal justice major, was hoping for networking opportunities like this when she joined the club.
“I’m looking forward most to just connecting with people and also creating networks for future usage,” Bosch said.
The Psychology Club at Washburn University is led by students and is continuing to grow every year. The club provides the members with insight to what their future can look like through psychology experts and other students.
