The Office of Student Involvement and Development hosted a trivia night Aug. 20 in the Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center to welcome students back to campus.
“With 38 points, first place is Scary Dragon Five Thousand!” said Stephen Woody, instructional librarian and event emcee.
As the event started, everyone got into groups of about four to six people. They had a few rounds and kept track of points for each.
“We probably averaged about 60 to 80 students, so it definitely met my expectations,” said Isaiah Bryant Collier, director of Student Involvement and Development. “I definitely think it helps to push the campus culture. I think having these programs outside the classroom pushes them to do just that.”
Each group was named by the team at the beginning of the event. Some teams chose a play on words or other creative phrases for their team’s name.
The rounds consisted of pop-culture questions and teams tallied up points for each correct answer. Questions varied in content from hit Marvel movies to the Netflix show “Bridgerton” to Disney.
The last round was individual trivia where everyone competed against each other. Rhyian Smith, freshman kinesiology major, and Meredith Barry, freshman forensic biology major, won the top two spots for the individual contest.
While Bryant-Collier is used to being at OSID events, Woody was not as familiar with the setting.
“I didn’t know what to expect,” Woody said. “I had never done it until my friend, Isaiah, asked me.”
Despite this being Woody’s first experience with OSID trivia night, the event was an overwhelming success exceeding the expectations of both the event coordinators and students, who showed enthusiasm throughout the night.
Students can find OSID’s future events on the Washburn calendar.
