Race & Justice Week – Shuttle to Brown v. Board Site

On Sept. 12 and Sept. 15, Topeka Metro is providing a shuttle for Washburn students and employees so they can visit the historical site of Brown v. Board of Education for Race & Social Justice Week. Pick-up is at 10:00 a.m. at the South Loop – Memorial Union/LLC and drop off is at 12:30 p.m. Sponsored by Topeka Metro and Office of Diversity & Inclusion.

Museum After Hours – The Last Wild Places of Kansas

Friday, Sept. 14 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the museum. Come hear award-winning author George Frazier discuss the last wild places of Kansas. This event is free and open to the public. The Kansas Museum of History is open until 6:30 p.m., admission is half price after 5 p.m. The Museum Store is also open until 6:30 p.m.

Noah Hathaway Meet & Greet Never Ending Story Event

On Friday Sept. 14  from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. TopCon Geek Expo will Host the Meet & Greet at the Historic Jayhawk State Theatre of Kansas. This Special Meet & Greet with Noah Hathaway is a limited admission event and a portion of the proceeds go towards renovation efforts that are ongoing at the Jayhawk. Tickets range from $10 to $34. 

Topeka Community Conversation on Poverty Reduction

On Sept. 15 at 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Memorial Union, the Topeka Community Conversation for Poverty Reduction is a way for students, faculty and community leaders to work together to address the barriers that keep people stuck in poverty, such as accessing basic needs or employment. Tacos y Tequila

Saturday, Sept. 15 at 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Topeka Performing Arts Center (214 SE 8th Ave) will be having tacos and tequila. You can explore five of the seven culinary regions of Mexico without leaving Topeka. Before the main concert, enjoy tacos, tequila, margaritas and Mexican beer while enjoying mariachi music from Mariachi Luna Azul. Restaurants will have tacos for $2 or less, as well as other foods for sale. 

Concert in the Park 10th Anniversary

On Sept. 16 at 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery there will be a free park concert. The annual event featuring the Kings of Swing. The concert is a great opportunity for individuals and families to enjoy some fine music in a beautiful, park-like atmosphere or take a turn on the dance-floor and showcase their swing-dancing skills.

Izzy Wasserstein – ‘Speculative Identities: Queerness and Marginalization’

On Sept. 19 at noon to 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Union/Stauffer Commons in the Cottonwood Room, Izzy Wasserstein will read from her poetry and fiction and discuss the ways that her writing is shaped by her identity as a queer, transgender woman. Discussion and an optional brainstorming exercise will follow.
