Justin Clements, a featured artist in Mulvane Art Fair

Justin Clements is a full-time artist from Fort Collins, Colorado. This is his fourth year showcasing at the Mulvane Art Fair.

“I love the process [of making art]. I’m not crazy about selling stuff. I just love the process,” said Clements.

Clements is a self-taught artist. He is inspired and influenced by the artist, Richard Schmid. He has attended workshops with different artists. “I didn’t go to art school. But I’ve had a lot of really good teachers in the workshop,” stated Clements.

Clements sold his first artwork in Breckenridge, Colorado, which made it a special time for him.

The major turning point for Clements is when his wife was pregnant with their first child. “I’ve always wanted to be an artist since I was a little kid. I never quite figured out how to do it,” said Clements. “But, when my wife was pregnant with our first, I had that moment where I saw my life happening. That’s when I really focused on figuring out how make money doing art.”

Clements had about 40 paintings in the Mulvane Art Fair. He has been preparing for this art fair since the winter. “I always look forward to connecting with artists,” said Clements. “I love seeing all the different things people are coming up with.”

Yueyi Sun, a senior art major student with an emphasis in painting, was impressed by Clements’ work.

“I like the way he painted the flowers,” said Sun. “His style reminds me of romanticism art, emphasizing the feeling of the painting.”

When asked the goal of being an artist, Clements stated, “Just to keep doing it. I just really love the studio work.”
