Create and celebrate at Monet’s birthday bash

TOPEKA- His father wanted him to go into the family grocery business, but he wanted to paint. Lucky for the art world he didn’t follow dad’s advice.
The 168th birth anniversary of French Impressionist Claude Monet will be marked with a celebration class at 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Mulvane Art Museum, as part of the Celebration of Artists classes. Participants will create their own version of art using the techniques and styles used by the artist.
The series will continue with birthday celebrations set from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 6 for Georges Seurat and Dec. 13 for Edvard Munch.
Cost is $10 for members, $12 for non-members for each session and materials are included. Children under six must be accompanied by an adult. Adult “pal” gets in free.

The Mulvane Art Museum is located on the campus of Washburn University, at 17th and Jewell Streets. Parking is available directly to the west of the Museum.
