Public education program planned by NAMI Washburn Oct. 13

TOPEKA – “In Our Own Voice,” a unique public education program developed by National Alliance on Mental Illness in which two trained consumer speakers share compelling personal stories about living with mental illness and achieving recovery, will be presented from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, in Henderson Learning Resources Center room 100 at Washburn University. The event is hosted by NAMI Washburn and the public is welcome to the free event.
The program is an opportunity for those who have struggled with mental illness to gain confidence and to share their individual experiences of recovery and transformation. Throughout the presentation, audience members are encouraged to offer feedback and ask questions.
NAMI Washburn is an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, a not-for-profit, grassroots organization founded to offer support, education and advocacy for individuals with mental illness and their families. The goals of NAMI Washburn are to eradicate stigma, provide support and resources for the entire Washburn community and to offer fun, educational events on campus and in the community.
