Topeka tops Springfield 3-1
November 18, 2011
Tied after two periods on Friday night, the Topeka RoadRunners needed a spark.
A goal early in the third period by Topeka forward Robbie Davis did the trick.
After a scoreless first period and one goal for each team in the second period, Davis scored on a rebound at 5:41 to give Topeka (14-7-2) a 2-1 lead, which eventually became the game-winner as Topeka knocked off the Springfield Jr. Blues 3-1 at Landon Arena.
Springfield (8-13-1) broke the scoreless tie at 7:10 of the second period as forward Kyle Cook scored on a delayed penalty. Topeka forward Brian Christie scored his 11th goal of the season at 13:10 to tie the game at one.
Davis eventually added a late-period emptynet goal with two seconds left in the contest. Topeka goaltender Peter Traber stopped 23 of 24 shots as he improved to 4-2-0 on the season. Tyler Parks got the loss for Springfield, stopping 21 of 23 shots.
The two teams play again Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
