‘Savages’ Movie Review
July 8, 2012
Oliver Stone’s film “Savages” that opened this weekend is certainly the most sexual, graphic and suspenseful films I have seen in a long time.
The film begins with Ophelia (played by Blake Lively) narrating the story, explaining that just because she is doing that does not mean she is alive at the end. Right away I love when she says this because you become more interested in the story because you are uncertain of the outcome.
Ophelia or simply just O explains her life with her two shared lovers, Ben (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson), a college graduate and Chon (played by Taylor Kitsch), a former U.S. Navy SEAL. The two men are top week growers providing the best weed in the business. Ben gives O the passionate love making that she wants and Chon gives her the rough sex life that she wants and in return she keeps Chon’s mind off of Afghanistan.
The two men are approached by men of Elena Sanchez (played by Salma Hayek) of the Baja Cartel who want to go into business with them but when the two do not want to be involved, Elena sends her men to kidnap O. The two men must work together along with a corrupt DEA agent Dennis (played by John Travolta) to fight against the cartel and rescue the woman that they love.
If you don’t like heads being shot off and scenes of graphic violence as well as graphic sex scenes, this might not be the movie for you. However, if you can handle all of that then you will love this movie as I did. It has a powerful storyline, I know it is weird with two men sharing one woman but trust me that will grow on you. Oliver Stone makes it where you at first hate the cartel but once you learn their back stories and where they come from you sort of feel for them as well.
The ending is a bit confusing but maybe you can understand it better than I did.
I give the film 4.5 out of 5 Top Hats.
