In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Jesus “Chuy” Negrete will present “Songs and Images of Mexican Labor in Kansas” on Tuesday, September 16 from 6:00pm – 7:30pm at the International House. The son of migrant farmworkers who later settled in Chicago, Dr. Negrete went on to become one of the nation’s  foremost musicologists and interpreters of Mexican and Chicano music. He has been weaving together songs, corridos (running verse ballads), poetry and oral histories in English and Spanish to present, with his guitar and harmonica, a compelling retelling of Mexican and Mexican American history. His lyrical compositions address the need to pass on historical truths through storytelling and performing arts. His presentation is sponsored by HALO, International Programs, and Multicultural Affairs. All are welcomed to attend.
