WU announcement October 16

Attention, Ichabods. Parking lots 10 and 11 will be closed Friday for a special event honoring a two-time Washburn alumna.

Your fellow Ichabod, Nancy Moritz (BBA ’82 and JD ’85), will be formally invested as a justice of the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals during a special session of the court to be held at our own White Concert Hall on Friday at 2 p.m. Because of this amazing opportunity, parking lots 10 and 11 will be closed on Friday for the convenience of the many honored guests expected on campus.

We know this creates an inconvenience for you, but we hope that you can plan accordingly and remember that the extra steps you take Friday are because of a once-in-a-generation or more opportunity for Washburn. Please use this map (PDF) to find other on-campus parking opportunities. Security will be stationed in lots 10 and 11. (The forecast Friday calls for abundant sunshine.)

The event will include speeches and Moritz’s official robing. She will be assisted by her daughters, one of whom is a current Washburn education major. Moritz previously served on the Kansas Supreme Court. She is the second Ichabod to be named to the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. The first was Delmas Hill, who earned a law degree in 1929 and was appointed to the court in 1961. The 10th Circuit Court is based in Denver and covers Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Utah and Wyoming.

Thank you for your understanding.

Go, Bods!
