Washburn Tech’s Recycled Rides program will reach a new milestone on Thursday, May 1, when they give away three restored vehicles at the same time.  

      The ceremony will take place at 9:30 a.m. at the south apron of the Kansas Statehouse.  State Farm Insurance will make a donation to the program through the Washburn University Foundation during the ceremony as well.

      “State Farm is known for being a good neighbor, and that shows in their dedication to the community and Recycled Rides,” said Clark Coco, dean, Washburn Tech.  “It is incredible to hand a family the keys to a better future.  State Farm’s generous donations are making that possible.”

      Recycled Rides is put on by the National Auto Body Council.  The program partners students and professionals in the community to refurbish vehicles.  These vehicles are then given to needy individuals, families and charities.  The vehicles donated for the May 1 ceremony were all donated by individuals, making the total number of vehicles donated by Washburn Tech to thirteen.  

      Along with a vehicle, recipients will also receive car care products and one free oil change and tune-up.
