English singer-songwriter, Adele, has become well-known from her moving and enjoyable music and the rising popularity of 25, her most recent album released this past November.

Adele’s album has sold over 5 million copies in the United States within the first three weeks of its release.

“I don’t really know much about her besides that she has a beautiful voice. Apparently her newest release has been doing well,” said Caleb Glass, sophomore computer science major.

There is a strong resemblance between Adele’s new hit song, titled “Hello,” and Lionel Richie’s popular ’80s tune also titled “Hello.” There are also many striking similarities within both music video such as the phone that both Adele and Richie uses to communicate, and both videos using a black and white color scheme.

“I think [Adele’s] music is boring and uninspired,” said Gerardo Echeverria, junior marketing major.

Due to the many similarities in song title and music videos, some listeners thought that Adele was strongly copying Richie’s vocals and ideas. However, Richie has publicly stated that he is a fan of Adele’s new hit song.

In an interview with Entertainment News, Lionel said, “If you say Adele and you say Lionel or Lionel and Adele…that’s the best pairing you could have!”

YouTube has hosted the now popular mash-up of the two “Hello” songs, which features both Adele and Richie and may have sparked the idea of this possible collaboration. The popular mash-up includes Richie calling Adele with the popular line from his song, “Is it me you’re looking for?” Adele then proceeds to hang up the phone.

“We’ve definitely got to do something, me and Lionel,” said Adele after watching the popular mash-up video.

According to an interview with Entertainment News, Lionel stated that he and Adele are actually planning on getting together and working on a collaboration. This collaboration will be creating music that fans of both artists can enjoy.

This collaboration won’t likely happen until after Adele’s newest record is taken on tour. In the same Entertainment News interview, Lionel also stated that Adele is very determined to get her newest album out there before working on another project. The last date of Adele’s newest European tour, 25, is June 13.
