Dear WU faculty and staff,
Hello again! Our 21 visiting Japanese students from Fukuoka University and 6 students from Chiba University of Commerce arrived safely over the weekend, and are enjoying getting to know the WU campus! On Feb. 25, we’ll also be welcoming 10 nursing students from Fukuoka University. One of the students’ favorite parts of the exchange program is a host family weekend. We are still looking for a few families for the following two weekends (either weekend, or both, if you’re adventurous! 😉 ):
– Feb. 26-28: Main Fukuoka group and Chiba group
– Mar. 4-6: Fukuoka nurses
Pick up will be at the International House around 5 pm on that Friday, with students returning to campus anytime that Sunday afternoon or evening. The students stay on campus in the dorms for the majority of their visit, with the exception of the hosting weekend.
For those of you who haven’t hosted for this program before, our office doesn’t set a schedule for the students, rather, the students would be included in your everyday activities that weekend, or you’re free to plan with them whatever you’d like. Families in the past have taken their student/s to their kids’ school or church events, gone shopping in Lawrence or KC, gone to the movies, etc. The main purpose of the weekend is for the students to practice their English and learn more about American culture firsthand.
If you’re interested in hosting, please let me know by replying to this e-mail. Also, if you have any friends who would enjoy hosting, please let me know their contact information and I’ll be glad to let them know more about this program.
If you have any questions or would like additional details, just let me know, and thank you in advance!
Sincerely,
Heidi
