Registration carnival helps students enroll for classes

A registration carnival allowing Washburn Students to enroll in classes, took place from 11am to 2pm on April 14.

The event featured carnival games the students could play, such as inflatable obstacle courses, jenga, a cakewalk, connect four and many more. A meal was provided as well and included hot dogs, nachos, pop and even ice cream. Students were able to hang out with friends and win prizes. The prizes arrange from being able to win FitBits, Beat headphones, gift cards to different places and many more prizes.

“I like that there is an element of fun for something very serious.” said Sean Bird, associate dean of the library, “We want to celebrate being an Ichabod while recognizing the importance of planning ahead and registration for classes.”

This was the second event for the carnival put on by the First Year Experience faculty and the students. The games were provided by Carnival Guy Games.

The event rewards students for registering for classes early,  and gets students to think about the importance of their classes. Students enrolled early for classes can go to the carnival and win prizes and talk to an adviser at the carnival.

“I like that everyone can come together and relax and have fun as a group and destress from tests and finals coming up.” Said Chris Beier, Junior, Political science major.

The event is also a way to have students think 30, which is for them to take 15 credit hours a semester to be done in four years. The students can also learn that doing things in a timely manner is a rewarding feeling when they are done with the process.

“The registration carnival is important as it influences students of all grade levels to enroll during their specified time period. It is all about think 30 and to succeed.” Said Travis Thayer, sophomore education major.

The students can enjoy all the event has to offer. The students can win tickets by playing games and they could also take a survey about open source textbooks and get 10 free tickets.

Students come to events like this not just for the prizes, but for the fact while there having fun they can meet new people and make new friends. This event helps with making connections and helps students to understand the importance of making sure there enrolled for next semester.

That is why students need to get signed up early so they do not stress out about classes and finals at the same time. This event is very helpful in teaching students the value and importance of enrolling early.
